Good morning, brothers and sisters in Christ. Today, we gather to explore the profound and vital topic of "Finishing Well." As believers, we are called to run the race set before us with endurance, to fight the good fight of faith, and to remain steadfast until the end. However, the journey is often fraught with disappointments and challenges that can sap our vigor and zeal for God. The enemy is ever at work, seeking to discourage and derail us. But take heart, for God's Word provides us with the strength and encouragement we need to persevere and finish well.
1. Hebrews 12:1-2 (NKJV)
"Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."
2. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (NKJV)
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing."
3. Galatians 6:9 (NKJV)
"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
4. Philippians 3:13-14 (NKJV)
"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
5. Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
"But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
6. James 1:12 (NKJV)
"Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him."
7. Romans 5:3-5 (NKJV)
"And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us."
Brothers and sisters, the journey of faith is not without its challenges and disappointments. The enemy will use these to try to discourage us and cause us to lose our zeal for God. But let us remember that we are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses, we have the example of Jesus, and we are promised a reward for our perseverance. Let us lay aside every weight, keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, and run the race with endurance. May we all finish well, to the glory of God. Amen.
